Poole Pottery Animals book

STOP PRESS 27 FEBRUARY 2012

I've taken delivery today of my entire stock of the new Poole Pottery Animals book. I've checked over everything and I've set up the live Order Form and started to announce the news through my eBay listings. Don't forget that orders through this website will feature the author's signature inside the book covers. Happy reading.

Brand new book announcement.

Actually there are 2 new books based on potteries in the Poole area of Dorset so we're spoilt for choice at present. I'm grateful to Julie Peat (wife of co-author of the Purbeck Pottery - a History and Collectors' Guide, Alan Peat) for helping me through the maze of the publishing industry, and we've agreed to sell each other's book. Interested persons will probably be aware that Purbeck Pottery was set up by a group of former Poole Pottery employees who were quickly followed by Robert Jefferson and Bruce Sydenham, and each company now has a shop on the Quay in Poole - they're only about 150 yards apart and closely related in terms of history.

Take a look at the website (under construction still) for the new Purbeck Pottery book, and I'll add an option to my Order Form shortly.

POOLE POTTERY ANIMALS book

Soon to be published and available. Until nearer the time I've excluded my Order Form but will add this later - soon after Christmas - when I get a better idea of publication date. Why not try a preview of its contents?

AniMall Blues is delighted to announce that the long-awaited book about Poole Pottery Animals is almost ready for the printers, and should be published and available early in the New Year. It will be available initially on eBay (Poole Listings), in local independent booksellers, privately though this website (signed by the author), from larger book retailers at Antiques Fairs, from the Poole Pottery Collectors Club, and in the Poole Pottery Shop. It will then be released to major book retail chains, and to Internet bookshops (Amazon & Google).

Its actual size is height 24.5cm by width 17.1cm, and there are 224 pages packed with information about the subject. It's a paperback book printed on high quality paper, and there are over 900 colour photographs which are COPYRIGHT FREE. That means you are free to use the photographs without further permission. The book weighs 750 grams because of paper quality so Recorded Delivery postage will be £4.

Retail price is £25 and this compares very favourably with similar books with just 150 pages and retailing at or about £20.

This website is designed to announce the imminent publication of the new book, and to provide a visual taster of what you'll find inside the covers. An Order Form will be added in the New Year.

Happy reading.

Here are a few of the EXTREMELY RARE models produced by Poole Pottery in early 2008

Animall Blues Ltd .specialises in Poole Pottery Animal Sculptures in the Collectables Market - stoneware, blue and other glazes, bone china, and more recently the much older models from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Apart from the 1960s Single Dolphin models by Tony Morris and Bert Baggaley, the majority of the models were originally produced in stoneware clay from the time Barbara Linley-Adams started with Poole Pottery in 1972. After Barbara had retired from full-time employment with Poole Pottery the bone china Golden Eye range was introduced in 1985, and the blue and other glazed earthenware models followed in 1989.

Stoneware production continued on a much reduced scale until 1999 under the control of Alan White, and he was responsible for the introduction of the acrylic painted stoneware models in 1991 and several new models like the Large Cats and Kittens, Pig on Straw, and Hedgehog Planter. Other models previously produced in blue glazed earthenware (eg. Dolphins, Trout, Salmon, Small Otter) were tried in stoneware clay but problems with the oxide finish prevented any getting beyond the trial stage so all are now very rare. The bone china range of just 25 models only lasted a year or so, and the blue and other glazed earthenware ranges were discontinued in September 2006 on economic grounds. As a result the moulds were no longer deemed useful and were scrapped before and during the period of Administration (ie.between October 2006 and February 2007). There were plans to reduce the production space within the factory and to sub-let some of it as a cost reduction exercise and a general clearout had already started before the Administration was enforced in December 2006.

In 2002 AniMall Blues and Grove Cottage Antiques contracted with Poole Pottery to have them produce limited numbers of blue glaze models for the collectors' market. The models were manufactured to our specified high standards, with no seconds being accepted (full refund guaranteed if you're not entirely satisfied) to ensure all our products are of the finest quality. They will remain very rare issues since we have controlled the numbers very tightly, usually by issuing them as Limited Edition pieces complete with certificates of authenticity, and the venture ended abruptly in 2002 when Poole Pottery was placed in Administration. We had hoped that our initial range would be extended in time to include many of the smaller items such as birds, mice, and ducks which you are probably familiar with in the Poole Pottery stoneware animal range, but the situation at Poole Pottery has prevented us from doing so. However, small numbers of trials in blue glaze and white glaze were produced in readiness for future contracts and these were acquired by our company. Our Limited Edition sizes have been reduced to just 300 certificated items of each making them even rarer than we anticipated, but we have deliberately left the Certificates as they were to show the original intention.VIEW CERTIFICATE.

NEWS FLASH - Redundant Animal Moulds destroyed.

***** In September 2006 the then owners of Poole Pottery Ltd. decided to discontinue their entire range of Dolphin Blue models because of declining sales - we advised 5 years earlier that their models would not survive a doubling of prices in a two year period but our advice was ignored. As a direct result the moulds were declared OBSOLETE and were broken up and scrapped at around Christmas 2006 when the company was placed in Administration for the second time in just 5 years. We understand that the Lifestyle Group (see HOT NEWS below) has the moulds for the Single Dolphins and the Small Cats but has no plans to re-introduce them, or indeed ANY FUTURE MODELS in Dolphin Blue glaze so whatever already exists is all there will ever be. That is good news for collectors who should now see the rising prices and values which result from such a finite ending of supply.

GREAT NEWS - EXTREMELY RARE BLUE GLAZE MODELS.

During the process of clearing out the unwanted Poole Pottery Factory in December 2006, the Lifestyle Group employees unearthed small numbers of earthenware models which had been produced in 2002 from the original moulds from the Barbara Linley-Adams stoneware series. They had been produced in anticipation of the second and subsequent AniMall Blues contracts and simply set aside after those contracts failed to materialise. Small numbers of an extensive range of trial models had been produced in blue glaze and white glaze at the request of AniMall Blues, and we purchased those but left behind the biscuitware models which hadn't been glazed. Alan White, working for his new employers (The Lifestyle Group) arranged for these latest finds to be sprayed in Dolphin Blue Glaze and sold in the Poole Pottery Shop, on eBay, and privately. We are delighted to have been able to acquire extremely limited numbers of most of these "new" models to add to our previous purchases and can offer these to customers of our website on a First Come - First Served basis. Please be aware that only handfuls of each model exist and they are consequently EXTREMELY RARE - photos and details have now been added to this website and you can find them with this LINK to the BLUE GLAZE RARITIES in the Shopping Mall

Where can I buy Blue Glaze in the Poole area? Whilst we are delighted to handle sales through the Animall Blues website with payment by Paypal, Cheque or Money/Postal orders, if you prefer a postal method of payment you can print off our order form to enclose with your payment.

We also appreciate however, that some customers would prefer to see and handle the goods before purchase, and our Blue Glaze Animal range is now available in the Poole Pottery Shop on the Quay in Poole, Dorset.

Wimborne Market: This wonderful market is situated off the Ringwood road out of Wimborne, and is well signposted. It is open every week on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and on Bank Holiday Mondays, but you are advised to get there by 8.30am on these days because it's very popular and gets very busy, and because the bargains disappear first. Ask anyone to point out Molly and you will find a wide array of Poole Pottery Animals and many other collectibles, and all the items normally associated with a market.
